Beloved in Christ,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! How I have missed seeing all of you over the summer months. I trust that you were blessed by some summertime rhythms and are refreshed and ready for the fall. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on Friday, September 10th from 9:30am-4:30pm at JIM’s Place as George Bullard leads us in discerning God’s call in the shape of our Future Story. I also hope that you’ll be able to join Dick, Donnie and me for dinner back at our home (404 N. Broadway) following our time at JIM’s Place. Please do RSVP to Erin@MVPJourneyingwithJesus.org.
A very special thank you to those of you who have participated in prayer triplets and on the Day of Prayer. It has been humbling to see how God is speaking through you. That we might fully prepare ourselves for the launch of God’s Future Story, I want to invite you into a daily time of prayer and reflection over the next week.
To guide your time in prayer, Marty and I recommend the following texts for daily reading:
- Practice 1: Real Presbyteries Serve Congregations—Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
- Practice 2: Real Presbyteries Develop Leaders—Ephesians 4:1-16
- Practice 3: Real Presbyteries Focus on Kingdom Potential—Matthew 6:25-34
- Practice 4: Real Presbyteries Deepen Relationships—Colossians 3:1-17
- Practice 5: Real Presbyteries Broker Resources—Acts 2:43-47
- Practice 6: Real Presbyteries are Captivated by Vision—Matthew 25:31-46 and Matthew 28:16-20
- Practice 7: Real Presbyteries have Empowering Management—John 15:1-17
Additionally, for those who feel called, I invite you to join me and other leaders in keeping a dawn to dusk fast on Thursday, September 9th. While I will be fasting from all food, you may wish to fast simply from sweets or other special foods or from favorite media programs… Whatever form your fast takes, know that God will honor the fast.
I thank God for you daily. It is both joy and privilege to serve with you.
Together may we journey with Jesus to touch the world—Empowered by the Spirit to make disciples, nurture our faith, and serve the needs of the community.
In Christ’s service,
